2017 was an amazing year for HomeGrown HideAways and we're expecting even bigger and better things for 2018. We thought it might be a good time to offer up something above and beyond our facebook/instagram/twitter posts so we're going old school with a blog. For our first post, we're just gonna dip our toes into the water and highlight some of last year's accomplishments for the folks that don't know us yet. Airbnb Though we've been available for events and camping since we opened our gate in 2009, 2017 marks our first full year of offering "glamping" through Airbnb. Including regular campers and a few RV hook-ups, Abi's tree-yurt, the Yome Away from Home, Grand Tipi, Nook, & Porch, brought nearly 600 guests from 19 states, and 4 countries to our hundred-acre holler just outside Berea, Ky. We're currently building a new treehouse, the TreeTop Flyer, and hope to have it ready by Spring of this year! PlayThink This HomeGrown festival is the brainchild of our very good friend, Paige Hankla, and we are lucky to be the chosen venue for this fantastic, family event. The first PlayThink festival took place in 2012 and had around 60 instructors, 150 workshops, and 115 attendees. 2017 had approximately 113 instructors, 250 workshops, and a sold-out crowd of 1300 people, including ~200 kids! We don't host any other festivals these days, but this one is near and dear to us and we highly recommend attending! Winners Last summer, HomeGrown HideAways entered the American Farm Bureau Federation's Rural Entrepreneurship Challenge. Out of 471 entries, we made it to the top ten and were awarded $10,000 for Best AgriTourism Startup. We plan to use the money to transform our functional, but ugly and drafty, courtesy kitchen (the kitchen available for campers and guests to use during their visits) into a certified kitchen and classroom space that we can use for year-round workshops and events. We're extremely grateful and super excited to have seed money for this dream project. Stay tuned for more info as we move this project forward! Upcoming The last thing we'll mention this round is a new event we're trying out called Chef's Table! We've recently been informed that this is also the name of a TV show so perhaps we'll have to re-name it, but the invites have already been sent. This is an intimate, home-cooked meal in our very own kitchen featuring Chef Nathan and the best, local and regional ingredients that we and our friends have grown just for your distinguished palate. Seating is limited to 8 and our first event is scheduled for January 27th. If this one goes well, expect more in the upcoming months! Reserve your seats HERE.
